Peer-reviewed scientific studies on the impacts of ocean noise on marine living resources,
submitted pursuant to paragraph 107 of General Assembly resolution 61/222

    The General Assembly in paragraph 107 of its resolution 61/222 on "Oceans and the law of the sea", adopted on 20 December 2006:
    "Encourages further studies and consideration of the impacts of ocean noise on marine living resources, and requests the Division to compile the peer-reviewed scientific studies it receives from Member States and to make them available on its website."

   The Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea in a note verbale dated 14 March 2007, informed all Member States of the procedure for the submission to the Division of the peer-reviewed scientific study(ies) referred to in paragraph 107 of resolution 61/222.

    In paragraph 120 of its resolution 62/215 on "Oceans and the law of the sea", adopted on 22 December 2007, the General Assembly: "[Encouraged] further studies and consideration of the impacts of ocean noise on marine living resources, and [requested] the Division to continue to compile the peer-reviewed scientific studies it receives from Member States and, as appropriate, to make them, or references and links to them, available on its website." This mandate was extended through resolution 64/71 to include intergovernmental organizations, and the request has been renewed annually, most recently in resolution 71/257.

Belgium By letter dated 29 June 2007, the Government of Belgium transmitted to the Division a list of peer-reviewed scientific studies on the impacts of ocean noise on marine living resources. Click here to view the list.
Germany By letters dated 1 August 2017 and 7 September 2017 the Government of Germany transmitted to the Division three lists of peer-reviewed scientific studies on the impacts of ocean noise on marine living resources.

    ACCOBAMS List of peer-reviewed scientific studies on the impacts of ocean noise on marine living resources submitted by the Permanent Secretariat of the Agreement on the Conservation of Cetaceans of the Black Sea, Mediterranean Sea and Contiguous Atlantic Area pursuant to paragraph 162 of General Assembly resolution 64/71 of 4 December 2009.
    CMS By letter dated 8 August 2017 the secretariat of the Convention on Migratory Species submitted to the Division an academic bibliography of peer-reviewed studies on marine species and ocean noise. Click here to view the CMS list.
    IOC-UNESCO By letter dated 20 October 2017 the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization submitted to the Division a list of references provided by the Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research on the topic of sound in the ocean and its impacts on marine organisms.
