Apia –?Samoa will benefit from the United Nations Countering Terrorist Travel (CT Travel) Programme, a flagship global initiative that assists beneficiary Member States in building their capabilities to detect and counter-terrorists and serious crimes by using Advance Passenger Information (API) and Passenger Name Record (PNR) data to improve the use of international databases with known and suspected terrorists and criminals.

New York, 19 June 2023?– The United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT), together with the United Nations Countering Terrorist Travel (‘CT Travel’) Programme partners, organized a hybrid side event, ‘Donors Forum: Highlighting Achievements, Impact, And Lessons Learned’, on the margins of the Third Counter Terrorism Week (CT Week) 2023.

More than 100 participants, including officials from border law enforcement, security and civil aviation agencies from 13 Member States in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), regional and international experts, and representatives from international organizations, attended a regional workshop this week in Cairo on ‘’Setting-Up A Passenger Information Unit and Processing API and PNR’’.

The Counter-Terrorism Committee held a briefing to engage with Member States and international and regional organizations on the terrorist threat to international civil aviation, and to identify ways to strengthen and promote the implementation of international aviation security standards and practices. The Countering Terrorism Travel Programme and Addressing Counter-Terrorism in Aviation Security Team presented how they provide tools to enhance Member State capacity in support of Security Council resolution 2309 and aviation security provisions in resolution 2396.
