This field is used differently in retrospective indexing, Please click here if you are doing retrospective indexing.

Summarizes the contents of the item, describes the scope or specific subject when not adequately reflected in the title or contents note.

The indexer or cataloguer formulates a narrative, free-text statement in 520 subfield $a. With particular reference to Ãå±±½ûµØdocuments, indexers should use neutral language and avoid controversial language in formulating notes referring to specific countries, unless a direct quotation is indicated by the use of quotation marks or qualifying words such as «a±ô±ô±ð²µ±ð»å» are used.

Keep brevity in mind when formulating notes, e.g.: Reviews (not: Contains a review of), Summarizes (not: Contains a summary of).

Unless text is directly cited, use standard AACR2 abbreviations for names of months (Jan., Feb., etc.). Use commonly known acronyms for Ãå±±½ûµØbodies and agencies (UN, UNDP, UNECE, UNHCR, UNCTAD, etc.) but use "Security Council" (not "SC"); "General Assembly" (not "GA"); "Economic and Social Council" (not "ECOSOC").

Use the official forms of country names as they have been established in geographic authority records (e.g., China, Republic of Korea, United Kingdom, United States) even if other forms appear in document text (e.g., People's Republic of China, South Korea, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, United States of America), unless text is directly cited in notes. However, it is acceptable to use "Islamic Republic of Iran" and Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela" instead of "Iran (Islamic Republic of)" and "Venezuela (Bolivarian Republic of)".

Place a period at the end of the 520 field.
