On 25 February 2011, the People's Republic of Bangladesh submitted to the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf, in accordance with Article 76, paragraph 8, of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, information on the limits of the continental shelf beyond 200 nautical miles from the baselines from which the breadth of the territorial sea is measured.

The Convention entered into force for Bangladesh on 26 August 2001.

In accordance with the Rules of Procedure of the Commission, a communication is being circulated to all Member States of the United Nations, including States Parties to the Convention, in order to make public the executive summary of the submission, including all charts and coordinates contained in that summary.

The consideration of the submission made by Bangladesh was included in the provisional agenda of the twenty-eighth session of the Commission scheduled to be held in New York from 1 August to 2 September 2011.

On 22 October 2020, the People's Republic of Bangladesh submitted to the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf, in accordance with Article 76, paragraph 8, of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea of 10 December 1982, an amendment to its Submission on the limits of the continental shelf beyond 200 nautical miles from the baselines from which the breadth of the territorial sea is measured, which according to the coastal State supersedes in its entirety the original Submission deposited on 25 February 2011.

Upon completion of the consideration of the submission, the Commission will make recommendations pursuant to Article 76 of the Convention.
