CPD55 General information for NGOs聽

Registration 

NGOs that are accredited to and in good standing with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) may designate representatives to attend the annual sessions of the Commission. 

Due to the recent changes to COVID-19 mitigation measures at United Nations Headquarters,鈥痶he fifty-fifth session of the Commission on Population and Development will have both in-person and online meetings. The following meetings will take place in person in Conference Room 1:

  • Monday 25 April 10:00 - 13:00 (opening and general debate)
  • Monday 25 April 15:00 - 18:00 (interactive panel on reports of the Secretary-General, and general debate)
  • Tuesday 26 April 15:00 - 18:00 (general debate)
  • Wednesday 27 April 15:00 - 18:00 (general debate)
  • Thursday 28 April 15:00 - 18:00 (general debate)
  • Friday 29 April 10:00 - 13:00 (closing)

The following meetings will take place online:

  • Tuesday 26 April 10:00 - 12:00 noon (Multi-stakeholder panel on the contribution of key population and development issues to the main theme of Council, 鈥淏uilding back better from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) while advancing the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development鈥)
  • Wednesday 27 April 10:00 - 12:00 noon (Expert panel on population and sustainable development, in particular sustained and inclusive economic growth)
  • Thursday 28 April 10:00 - 12:00 noon (Expert panel on the programme of work in population)

All side events will take place fully virtually. 

Registration for NGOs in consultative status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) is open until 11 April 2022 online via the United Nations Indico registration system.鈥疨lease click to register for CPD55 via the Indico platform.鈥疧nline registration is mandatory. We are not able to accept registrations by email.

As in previous sessions, a limited number of registered representatives from non-governmental organizations in consultative status with ECOSOC will be able to鈥痵peak during the general debate鈥痑nd to鈥痬ake oral interventions during the interactive dialogues, to be held within the context of panels, subject to time availability. NGOs will also be able to follow the proceedings of the session via鈥痩ive webcast鈥痺hich will provide interpretation in official 缅北禁地languages.  

[Note on in-person participation: By registering for in-person participation, all applicants are declaring, as a condition of their entry to the 缅北禁地Headquarters and Conference Room 1, that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Additional mitigation measures against COVID-19 may be in place at 缅北禁地Headquarters during the event. All participants must bring a government-issued photo ID from a 缅北禁地Member State and proof of vaccination for entry to the 缅北禁地complex. All participants must follow COVID-19 mitigation measures in place at 缅北禁地Headquarters. All persons entering the United Nations Headquarter premises confirm they have not had symptoms consistent with COVID-19 in the last 5 days or a positive COVID-19 test result in the last 5 days. Persons experiencing COVID-19 symptoms or symptoms of an upper respiratory tract infection such as seasonal flu should not attend the meeting. If you start feeling unwell during the event you must immediately leave the complex and seek medical help. International travelers must familiarize themselves with local travel guidelines and requirements.]

Opportunities for registered NGOs to address the Commission 

Oral statements during the general debate 

Subject to time availability, oral statements may be delivered during the鈥痝eneral debate by a limited number of NGOs in consultative status with ECOSOC. Oral statements may be made in-person in the conference room, or via pre-recorded video message. Preference will be given to NGOs speaking on behalf of groups of organizations, caucuses, or coalitions.  

Oral statements should not exceed three minutes (approx. 350 words). Instructions will be communicated, via e-mail, to organizations that will be selected.

Interventions from the floor during an interactive panel 

A limited number of NGOs in consultative status with ECOSOC will be able to make oral interventions during the interactive debates following each panel discussion. Interventions must be focused on the theme of the panel and not on any other issues. 

Interventions at interactive dialogues are NOT to be in the form of prepared statements; NGOs are therefore not required to submit copies of such interventions. These interventions must be in the form of comments or questions addressed to the panel experts. Interventions should not exceed three minutes. Instructions will be communicated via e-mail to organizations that will be selected to make an intervention.
