The meeting was held at the United Nations in New York from 21 to 22 July 2011.</p> <p>The meeting was organized in preparation for the forty-fifth session of the Commission on Population and Development, scheduled to take place in April 2012, which would focus on “Adolescents and youth”. It was held during the 2010-2011 International Year of Youth, as promulgated by General Assembly resolution <a href="https://undocs.org/en/A/RES/64/134">A/RES/64/134</a>.</p> <p>The meeting brought together experts from different disciplines and regions to present and discuss research on two broad themes, namely (a) the demographic dynamics that shape the number and characteristics of adolescents and youth, and (b) the ways in which adolescents and young people can be agents of socio-economic development.
