The Nobel Peace Prize Challenge is an initiative by the Nobel Peace Center for the students of the Ignitor Community. The objective of the challenge is to include students globally in the topic of the Peace Prize, and to invite them to contextualize the challenges of the most recent Peace Prize to their own communities. The students can participate in either of two categories – essay or photography. This year’s challenge sheds light on the important topics of peaceful co-existence, fraternity and the protection of human rights.

Essay:

Write an open letter to a Head of State and challenge them to invite you and maybe a handful of others to a meeting – an honest and open dialogue. The letter should clearly define the problem, who you see as important stakeholders, and what benefits a change to the status quo would mean?

Do not provide a solution in your letter; the most important thing is to allow all involved to voice their concerns. Dialogue is about active listening and also trying to understand the position of the others. Better together – through dialogue. This is the mission of the Ignitor Community and what we hope this challenge will inspire.

Photography:

In the end, peace is achieved with fraternity. Friendship and understanding across any divide such as countries, cultures or generations is eventually what brings peaceful co-existence.

Take a photograph telling a story about fraternity between people on different sides of a divide, be it cultural, political, generational or other possibly dividing differences.

Prize:

Should you win, you would be invited to Oslo to attend the Nobel Peace Prize award ceremony and the . Experience the Nobel Peace Prize Concert and the exhibition opening at the Nobel Peace Center.

Between the strokes you’ll be welcome to attend other events connected to the Peace Prize and take in the beauty of Oslo during the winter time together with the Ignitor team. All expenses are covered, and you’ll get to stay at the venerable Grand Hotel in the city centre, where the laureates are also staying.
