Mr. Wu Hongbo Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs, Secretary-General for the Third International Conference on Financing for Development
Launch of the logo and website of the
Third International Conference on Financing for Development
Third International Conference on Financing for Development
14 April 2015, New York
Dear co-facilitators, Ambassador Talbot and Ambassador Pedersen,
Your Excellency Ambassador Tekeda Alemu,
Dear Ms. Gallach,
Excellences, Ladies and Gentlemen,
It is my great pleasure to be here with you today to launch the logo and website of the Third International Conference on Financing for Development.
You can see the logo on the screens in the room. It has been developed by the Department of Public Information, in consultation with the Ethiopian Government and my Department. It will accompany us on the road to Addis by being used in all promotional materials and communication platforms for the Conference, including its website. We encourage you to use it and disseminate it as much as possible in the lead up to the Conference.
Let me outline the key features of the logo:
- The circular form symbolizes the global nature of the Conference. It includes the official title of the Conference, its venue and dates.
- The graphics of the logo, including the arrow heads and the sun in the middle, are shaped according to traditional African design.
- The arrow heads represent the multi-stakeholder nature of the Financing for Development process and the importance of various sources of development finance (domestic and international, public and private).
- The sun with sunbeams implies the outcome of the Conference, including a comprehensive financing framework and concrete deliverables.
- The colours of the logo are aligned with those of the Ethiopian flag (red, yellow and green).
- The slogan “Time for Global Action” highlights the link between the outcome of the Conference and the post-2015 development agenda.
As I said, the website of the Conference is also being launched today. It is already up and running, and you can see the homepage on the screens in the room. The domain name will be .
The website will serve as the main online information platform for the Conference. The substantive and organizational information, materials and documents will be made available on the website, including all relevant information regarding the host country, the Conference venue, the preparatory process, the Conference programme and the outcome document. In this regard, we invite all Member States and other stakeholders to send to the co-facilitators and the Secretariat their comments and inputs to the draft outcome document in writing if they would like us to post them on the Conference website.
In addition, the website will provide tools for organization of the Conference, including an online registration platform for side events, with some guidelines on the organization of such events. All Member States and other stakeholders should submit their proposals and requests through this online platform. We are planning to launch the platform over the next couple of weeks.
Last but not least, the website will bring together all online communication channels and materials, such as our social media accounts, promotional videos, digital cards and infographics.
We count on your regular visits to the website and your active contribution to promote the Conference through various channels.
I wish you a successful meeting through the end of the week.
Thank you.??
