125. United Nations common systemThe General Assembly, by its resolution of 19 December 1972, decided in principle to establish an international civil service commission for the regulation and coordination of the conditions of service of the United Nations common system. By its resolution of 18 December 1974, the General Assembly approved the statute of the International Civil Service Commission (ICSC). The United Nations common system comprises 13 organizations that have accepted the Commission’s statute and that participate in the United Nations common system of salaries and allowances. Other organizations have not formally accepted the statute but fully participate in the Commission’s work and/or apply the common system of salaries, allowances and benefits. Under its statute, the Commission is required to submit an annual report to the Assembly, which is also to be transmitted to the governing organs of the other organizations of the common system, through their executive heads. At its sixty-second session, the General Assembly took note of the report of the International Civil Service Commission for 2007 (resolution ). |
