Consideration at the sixty-second session
The Committee considered the item at its 10th and 13th meetings, on 19 and 23 October 2007. The delegations of Sierra-Leone, Uganda, Lesotho and Nigeria expressed their support for the granting of observer status to the Regional Centre on Small Arms and Light Weapons in the Great Lakes Region and the Horn of Africa in the General Assembly.
Action taken by the Sixth Committee
At the 10th meeting, on 19 October, the representative of Kenya, also on behalf of Burkina Faso, Burundi, Costa Rica, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mali, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Seychelles, Sierra-Leone, the Sudan, Uganda and the United Republic of Tanzania, subsequently joined by Niger and Somalia, introduced a draft resolution entitled “Observer status for the Regional Centre on Small Arms and Light Weapons in the Great Lakes Region and the Horn of Africa in the General Assembly” (). At the same meeting the representative of Uganda orally amended it by modifying the title of the draft resolution to read “Observer status for the Regional Centre on Small Arms and Light Weapons in the Great Lakes Region, the Horn of Africa and Bordering States in the General Assembly” and by inserting this wording in the preambular paragraph and in operative paragraph 1 of the draft resolution. At its 13th meeting, on 23 October, the Committee adopted draft resolution, as revised, without a vote ().
