Consideration at the sixty-sixth session

The Sixth Committee considered the item at its 4th and 16th meetings, on 4 and 18 October 2011 (see and ).

Statements were made by the representatives of Serbia, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Greece.

Action taken by the Sixth Committee

At the 4th meeting, on 4 October 2011, the representative of Serbia, on behalf of Albania, Austria, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, Montenegro, Poland, the Republic of Moldova, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Ukraine, introduced a draft resolution entitled “Observer status for the Central European Initiative in the General Assembly” ().

At its 16th meeting, on 18 October 2011, the Committee adopted draft resolution A/C.6/66/L.5 without a vote. The representative of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia made a statement in explanation of position after the adoption of the draft resolution (see).

Under this draft resolution, the General Assembly would decide to invite the Central European Initiative to participate in the sessions and the work of the General Assembly in the capacity of observer; and would request the Secretary-General to take the necessary action to implement the resolution.
