By the letter dated 9 June 2020 () addressed to the Secretary-General, the Permanent Representative of Belize requested the inclusion of this item in the provisional agenda of the seventy-fifth session.

Action taken by the Sixth Committee
At the 14th meeting, on 6 November, the representative of Belize, also on behalf of Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Cabo Verde, the Comoros, Cuba, Dominica, the Dominican Republic, Fiji, Germany, Grenada, Guinea-Bissau, Guyana, Jamaica, Kiribati, the Marshall Islands, Mauritius, Micronesia (Federated States of), Palau, Papua New Guinea, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Samoa, Sao Tome and Principe, Seychelles, Suriname, Timor-Leste, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, Tuvalu and Vanuatu, introduced a draft resolution entitled "Observer status for the Small Island Developing States Dock (SIDS DOCK) in the General Assembly" () and announced that Ireland, Italy, Portugal and Singapore had joined in sponsoring the draft resolution.
At the 19th meeting, on 19 November, the representative of Belize announced that Austria, Canada, Equatorial Guinea, the Republic of Moldova, Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates had joined in sponsoring the draft resolution. Subsequently, Haiti and Spain also joined as sponsors of the draft resolution.
At the same meeting, the Committee adopted draft resolution A/C.6/75/L.5 without a vote.
Under the draft resolution, the General Assembly would decide to invite the Small Island Developing States Dock (SIDS DOCK) to participate in the sessions and the work of the General Assembly in the capacity of observer; and request the Secretary-General to take the necessary action to implement the resolution.
