By the letter dated 8 June 2022 () addressed to the Secretary-General, the Permanent Representatives of Bahrain, Jordan, Morocco, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan and Rwanda and the Chargés d’affaires of Kuwait and Saudi Arabia requested the inclusion of this item in the provisional agenda of the seventy-seventh session.
Consideration at the seventy-seventh session
The Sixth Committee considered the item at its 14th and 32nd meetings, on 13 October and 3 November 2022 (see and ). Statements were made by the representatives of Saudi Arabia, Oman and Pakistan.
Support was expressed for granting observer status to the Digital Cooperation Organization.

Action taken by the Sixth Committee
At the 14th meeting, on 13 October, the representative of Saudi Arabia, also on behalf of Bahrain, Cyprus, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Jordan, Kuwait, Morocco, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan and Rwanda, introduced a draft resolution entitled “Observer status for the Digital Cooperation Organization in the General Assembly” () and announced that Egypt had joined in sponsoring the draft resolution.
At the 32nd meeting, on 3 November, the representative of Saudi Arabia announced that Lesotho, Mauritania, Qatar and Uganda had joined in sponsoring the draft resolution.
At the same meeting, the Committee adopted draft resolution without a vote.
Under the draft resolution, the General Assembly would decide to invite the Digital Cooperation Organization to participate in the sessions and the work of the General Assembly in the capacity of observer and request the Secretary-General to take the necessary action to implement the resolution.
