Action taken by the Sixth Committee
At the 14th meeting, on 16 October 2023, the representative of Argentina, also on behalf of Andorra, Bolivia (Plurinational State of), Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Equatorial Guinea, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, Spain and Uruguay, introduced a draft resolution entitled “Observer status for the Organization of ?Ibero-American States for Education, Science and Culture in the General Assembly” () and announced that Brazil, Honduras and Mexico had joined in sponsoring the draft resolution.
At the 36th meeting, on 8 November 2023, the representative of Argentina announced that the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela had joined in sponsoring the draft resolution. At the same meeting, the Committee adopted draft resolution??without a vote.
Under the draft resolution, the General Assembly would decide to invite Organization of Ibero-American States for Education, Science and Culture to participate in the sessions and the work of the General Assembly in the capacity of observer and request the Secretary-General to take the necessary action to implement the resolution.
