Five actions
Take Care Before you Share
A small share can have big consequences. Take a moment to pause and think before sharing something you see online.
Think Critically
When you come across new information, ask yourself:
- Who created the content?
- What is the source?
- Where did it come from?
- Why is it being shared?
- When was it first published?
Demand Accountability
Call out information providers, including media and technology companies, that spread misinformation, disinformation and hate speech. Use your consumer power by calling on brands to know where their ads end up online and make sure their ad money doesn’t fund hate and lies.
Support Independent Media
Don’t just rely on one source of news. Seek out a range of perspectives, including from local and independent media outlets.
Challenge Harmful Narratives
Counteract disinformation and hate with tolerance and truth. Where possible, take a public stand and show solidarity with people who are being targeted.
