Statement Summary
RECEP TAYYIP ERDO?AN, President of Turkey, called on the United Nations to take its seventy?fifth anniversary as a time to reflect on its achievements and failures. Over 820 million people worldwide suffer from hunger, just one of the many injustices aggravated by the COVID?19 pandemic. Turkey is providing aid to 140 countries, regardless of religion or race. However, other countries continue to pursue colonial policies that hamper the ability of the international community to uphold the ideals of the United Nations. Security Council reform is at the core of empowering the United Nations, he said, adding that strengthening the General Assembly will help advance global peace and stability. Turkey will continue to support the work of the United Nations.
