Television continues to be the single largest source of video consumption. Though screen sizes have changed, and people create, post, stream and consume content on different platforms, the number of households with television sets continues to rise. The interaction between emerging and traditional forms of broadcast creates a great opportunity to raise awareness about the important issues facing our communities and our planet. The United Nations fights misinformation on all fronts. In the field, in places such as refugee camps with limited digital tools, the (IOM) supports a refugee-initiative to fight misinformation using  and loudspeakers to deliver accurate information door to door. At Headquarters, the 缅北禁地launched 鈥樷, an initiative to increase the volume and reach of trusted, accurate information by asking people to sign up to become information volunteers. The Verified initiative produces a daily feed of compelling, shareable content.

Governments Must Lead Fight Against Coronavirus Misinformation and Disinformation

Governments must step up to lead the fight against a growing tide of鈥痜alse, inflammatory and misleading information鈥痶hat threatens to worsen the already severe impacts of the virus. The United Nations launched 鈥榁erified鈥, an initiative to combat the growing scourge of COVID-19 misinformation by increasing the volume and reach of trusted, accurate information. It will provide information around three themes: science 鈥 to save lives; solidarity 鈥 to promote local and global cooperation; and solutions 鈥 to advocate for support to impacted populations.
