Washington, DC, 9 December 2022 – United Nations Special Adviser to the Secretary-General and Assistant Secretary-General of the Climate Action Team Selwin Hart had a special engagement in Washington, DC, today. In meetings with the United States Government, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the United Nations Foundation (UNF), he discussed outcomes of the United Nations 2022 Climate Change Conference in Sharm el-Sheikh (COP27) and how to ensure greater ambition on climate in 2023.

At the White House, Mr. Hart met with John Podesta, Senior Advisor to the President for Clean Energy Innovation and Implementation, and Stephanie Epner, Special Advisor and Senior Director for Climate and Energy at the National Security Council. His interlocutors at the US Department of the Treasury included Assistant Secretary for International Trade and Development Alexia Latortue and Climate Counselor to the Secretary John Morton. While in Washington, he also met with USAID’s Power Africa Coordinator Mark Carrato; UNF President and CEO Elizabeth Cousens; and an IMF delegation led by Dora Benedek, Chief of the Climate Policy Division.
