The Fourth Steering Committee Meeting
缅北禁地Peace and Development Trust Fund supports Varied Work across 缅北禁地pillars
On 29 October, the Steering Committee of the United Nations Peace and Development Trust Fund held its fourth meeting at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
The Committee reviewed the performance of the Fund and stressed the importance of timely implementation, the sharing of lessons learned and increased cooperation across all stakeholders in order to take advantage of potential synergies between peace and development.
The Committee underscored the need for more long-term and multi-agency projects that reflect the emerging priorities of the United Nations, including ensuring the safety of peacekeepers, supporting peace and security in Africa, aligning the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development with national and regional development strategies, and promoting peace through development. Given that 2020 will mark the 75th anniversary of the United Nations, the Committee also highlighted the need to support multilateralism by promoting global dialogues and conversations.
The Steering Committee endorsed 20 projects, including to build peacekeeping capacity in Africa, to support conflict prevention, mediation and peacebuilding, and advancing the 2030 Agenda.
Ms. Maria Luiza Ribeiro Viotti, Chef de Cabinet and Chair of the Steering Committee, hosted the session. The meeting was also attended by Mr. Liu Zhenmin, Under Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs, Mr. Zhang Jun, Permanent Representative of the People’s Republic of China to the United Nations, Ms. Wang Ying, Director General from the Ministry of Finance of the People’s Republic of China and Mr. Zhao Xing, Counselor from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China.
