Workshop on the Law of the Sea and Ocean Governance for the South American region
The regional workshop seeks to build capacity on the law of the sea, ocean governance, policy-science interface and sustainable ocean-based economies for the fSputh American region. The workshop is graciously hosted by the Government of Brazil, with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) and the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Bahia (IFBA) as the main local partner organizers. It will take place in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, from 09 to 13 December 2024.

Workshop on the Law of the Sea and Ocean Governance for the Francophone Countries in the Western Indian Ocean (WIO) Region
The regional workshop seeks to build capacity on the law of the sea, ocean governance, policy-science interface and sustainable ocean-based economies for the francophone countries in the Western Indian Ocean (WIO) region. The workshop was graciously hosted by the Government of Madagascar and the Nairobi Convention Secretariat and took place in Nosy be, Madagascar, from 23 to 27 September 2024.
Workshop on Ocean Governance and BBNJ Agreement for the Pacific Region
The regional workshop was organized in two segments: the first sought to build capacity on ocean governance and the law of the sea, and the second sought to build capacity on the Agreement under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biological Diversity of Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ Agreement). The workshop was organized in partnership with and hosted by the Office of the Pacific Ocean Commissioner (OPOC) at the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat in Suva, Fiji. It took place from 3 to 11 July 2024 and gathered 55 participants (33 women).
Workshop on law of the sea and ocean governance for the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States
The regional workshop seeks to build capacity on the law of the sea, ocean governance and sustainable ocean-based economies for the Members of the Organisation of the African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS). The workshop contains two segments. The first segment consists of a two-day in-person course. The second segment consists of further in-depth presentations to be provided virtually on a selection of identified needs. The in-person segment was graciously hosted by the Secretariat of the Organisation of the African, Caribbean and Pacific States. It took place in Brussels, Belgium from 29 to 30 April 2024 and gathered 37 participants (12 women), from 40 States. Further information on the virtual segment of the Course will be available in due course.
Workshop on the Law of the Sea, Ocean Governance and the Science-Policy Interface for the ASEAN Region
The regional workshop sought to build capacity in ocean affairs, the law of the sea, and the science-policy interface. It was hosted by the Government of Indonesia in Bali, Indonesia, from 12 to 15 December 2023 and gathered 58 participants (27 women), from 10 countries of the ASEAN Region, as well as participants from the ASEAN Secretariat. The capacity-building workshop was also in furtherance of the second ASEAN-Ãå±±½ûµØPlan of Action (2021-2025) of the Comprehensive Partnership between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and the United Nations. The Division oversaw the workshop's execution, with support from the United Nations Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs.

Regional training course to build capacity in ocean affairs and the law of the sea within the geographical scope of competence of the Inter-Regional Coordination Center for maritime safety and security in the Gulf of Guinea - Yaoundé, Cameroon, 10 to13 October 2023. The course was mostly delivered in French and interpretation of the proceedings into English was facilitated by the host country. 67 participants (20 women) from 20 States participated.

Regional Workshop on Ocean Governance and the Science-Policy Interface for the Indian Ocean
The Regional Workshop was hosted by the Nairobi Convention Secretariat and the Government of Seychelles in Mahe, Seychelles, from 30 July to 4 August 2023. The Workshop addressed Ocean Governance elements with a science-policy focus and attended by 68 participants (28 women) from 33 States. The training was delivered in conjunction with a regional workshop in support of the preparation of the Third World Ocean Assessment.
Regional "ECS" Training Course for Latin American and the Caribbean
From 9-12 January 2023, a four-day capacity-building workshop on the delineation of the outer limits of the continental shelf beyond 200 nautical miles and the preparation of a submission to the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf was held in Santiago de Chile, Chile. The 33 participants (11 women) from 14 States of the region received training on the scientific and technical and legal aspects of delimiting the outer limits of the continental shelf beyond 200 nautical miles, and to prepare, maintain and present submissions to the Commission. The course was delivered by two staff members of the Division and two subject matter experts.
Regional Workshop on Ocean Governance and the Science-Policy Interface for the Wider Caribbean
The Regional Workshop was delivered for the Wider Caribbean region and took place from the 5-9 September 2022 in Jamaica, with a total of 30 participants (16 women) from 18 States. The International Seabed Authority hosted the course graciously.
Regional Workshop on Ocean Governance and the Science-Policy Interface for the Indian Ocean
The Regional Workshop was hosted by the Government of Tanzania in Dar es Salaam, from 19 to 27 July 2022, and covered the Indian Ocean (including the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal), the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. The Workshop addressed Ocean Governance elements with a science-policy focus with a total of 117 participants (40 women) from 20 States.
Regional "ECS" Training Course for Pacific Island States
The course was held virtually, from 12 July to 11 August 2021, and covered legal, procedural, scientific and technical aspects addressed in UNCLOS, as well as in the Rules of Procedure and the Scientific and Technical Guidelines of the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf. 54 participants (20 women) from 12 States.
