On 26 September 2016, the United Nations issued its:
“Best Practices Manual for United Nations – International Criminal Court Cooperation”
The purpose of the Manual is to facilitate cooperation between the Organization and the Court by providing personnel of all parts of the United Nations Secretariat, including the secretariats of the Organization’s offices, funds and programmes, with practical guidance in the implementation of the Relationship Agreement between the United Nations and the International Criminal Court.
The Relationship Agreement between the United Nations and the International Criminal Court (ICC) was approved by the General Assembly in its of 13 September 2004, and entered into force on 4 October 2004. The Agreement creates a general framework for cooperation between all units and entities of the United Nations, including its offices, funds and programmes, on the one hand, and the International Criminal Court, including the Secretariat of the Assembly of States Parties (ASP) to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, on the other.
The Office of Legal Affairs acts as the Organization’s focal point for UN-ICC cooperation. All United Nations entities may seek advice from OLA regarding matters of cooperation with any organ of the Court, including the ASP.
