Online Course | The Peace and Development Nexus in Africa: Governance, Financing, and Country Systems

The United Nations Office of the Special Adviser on Africa (OSAA), in collaboration with the United Nations System Staff College (UNSSC) and with generous financial support from the United Nations Peace and Development Trust Fund, invites you to a pioneering self-paced online course offered FREE of charge.

Participants will be equipped with insights and knowledge to assess and promote sustainable development and durable peace in the region. The course explores the interconnectedness of peace, sustainable development, financing, and governance through a comprehensive conceptual framework.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Analyze the dependencies between peace and sustainable development. 
  2. Evaluate the role of sustainable financing in achieving development goals. 
  3. Understand the importance of managing economic and financial flows. 
  4. Assess the necessity of strong institutions and effective governance. 
  5. Apply these concepts in practical scenarios, such as school meal programmes. 

The course is entirely online consisting of a series of self-paced video lectures and text-based components to enhance participants' learning experience. Within this course, participants will have access to chat forums, reading materials, practice exercises, and much more. It will take approximately five weeks to complete.

To support the development of African solutions tailored to the needs and realities of the continent, this course is for policymakers and mid-level government officials from key ministries¡ªfinance, agriculture, education, energy and interior¡ªcommitted to driving sustainable development and fostering durable peace in the region, in line with the United Nations Secretary-General¡¯s call to deliver action for Africa, harness opportunities and respond to the challenges of our time. United Nations and external stakeholders working in the peace and development sectors impacting the achievement of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Agenda 2063 of the African Union are also invited to register.
