Towards informing and inspiring visitors to take impactful action for people and planet, the United Nations presence at Expo 2020 Dubai engages visitors in success stories of multilateralism at work through the decades from the 1940s to the present day. A popular element of that engagement currently on display at the : the ‘缅北禁地Timeline Wall’, is now available in substantially expanded digital form with enhanced features on the website of the Yearbook of the United Nations.

Building the future: Stepping stones in United Nations history is based on over 100 stories of United Nations contributions to human rights, climate action, gender and racial equality, sustainable development, and peace and security prepared by the Yearbook Unit of the Department of Global Communications for the ‘缅北禁地Timeline Wall’, 38 of which figure in that display.

Each of the 115 ‘stepping stones’ that make up Building the future tells a brief story of the United Nations in service of transforming our world, accompanied by a related photo or graphic, links to further narrative in the Yearbook online collection and clickable buttons to access United Nations websites and audiovisual material on the topic. The timeline represents a singular record of how manifold efforts undertaken through the United Nations have helped us rise above individual and national interests to achieve history-making moments of solidarity, empathy and friendship.
