On October 6, 2021, CTED, together with the CTC Chair, and his delegation, held a virtual annual orientation briefing for the incoming five elected Member States of the Security Council and Counter Terrorism Committee: Albania, Brazil, Gabon, Ghana, and the United Arab Emirates. The purpose of the yearly briefing is to welcome the incoming members and provide an overview of the work of CTED and the Committee, including its composition, mandated activities, and geographic and thematic work.
H.E. Mr. Tarek Ladeb, Chair of the CTC, opened the briefing and recognized the strong partnership between the Committee and CTED as well as CTED’s crucial role in supporting the Committee to continue deliver on its mandate in accordance with the relevant Security Council resolutions, as well as the working methods and procedures of the Committee. Assistant Secretary-General Michèle Coninsx, Executive Director of CTED, echoed the Chair’s comments about the strong partnership with the CTC Chair, his delegation, the CTC members, and the Security Council Affairs Division throughout all CTED’s and the Committee’s endeavors. The orientation further focussed on presentations on respective thematic and geographic activities, which was followed by a Q&A session with the incoming members.
CTED looks forward to the continued engagement and collaboration with the CTC Members, including the newly elected Member States, within the framework of their common efforts to combat terrorism.
