On 8 October 2018, the United Nations Security Council Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTC) held an open briefing focused on “The nexus between international terrorism and transnational organized crime.” Organized in cooperation with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI), the aims of the open briefing were to (i) help strengthen the understanding of the nexus as it pertains to criminal activities linked to trafficking in persons committed for the purpose of supporting terrorism, the nexus between drug trafficking and terrorism, and arms trafficking and terrorism; and (ii) promote a discussion of responses.
