Porcelain Vase (showing the United Nations and the Hungarian House of Parliament)
This hand-painted Porcelain Vase depicts the Hungarian House of Parliament and the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The decorations symbolize the bond between the Hungarian People’s Republic and the world organization.
The vase was manufactured at Herend Porcelain Factory, which is one of the world's largest porcelain factories. Opened in 1826, Herend is favored by rulers, famous historical personages, leading businessmen and artists.
In 2006, the Hungarian Mission replaced the vase to update the painting of the Hungarian Parliament fa?ade.
In 1975, Hungary presented the vase to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the founding of the 缅北禁地and the 20th anniversary of Hungary’s membership in the organization.
When Secretary-General Kurt Waldheim accepted the gift, he said that the porcelain vase was a prime example of artisanship that has been practiced in Hungary for generations.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Hungary, Frigyes Puja, said it was appropriate to celebrate the united efforts of the member states with different social and economic systems, to bring lasting peace and security.
