On 7 December 2012, Tuvalu, France and New Zealand (Tokelau) jointly submitted to the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf, in accordance with Article 76, paragraph 8, of the Convention, information on the limits of the continental shelf beyond 200 nautical miles from the baselines from which the breadth of the territorial seas of the three coastal States is measured in the area of the Robbie Ridge.
It is noted that the Convention entered into force for Tuvalu on 8 January 2003, for France on 11 May 1996, and for New Zealand on 18 August 1996.
The note verbale accompanying the submission states that “[t]he Submission also represents a partial submission in respect of a portion only of the continental shelf of France and of New Zealand that lies beyond 200 nautical miles from their baselines from which the breadth of their respective territorial seas are measured.”
In accordance with the Rules of Procedure of the Commission, a communication was circulated to all Member States of the United Nations, as well as States Parties to the Convention, in order to make public the executive summary of the joint Submission, including all charts and coordinates contained in that summary.
The consideration of the joint Submission made by Tuvalu, France and New Zealand (Tokealu) will be included in the provisional agenda of the thirty-second session of the Commission to be held in New York from 15 July to 30 August 2013.
Upon completion of the consideration of the joint Submission, the Commission will issue recommendations pursuant to Article 76 of the Convention.
