Africa Appointments
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon appointed Hiroute Guebre Sellassie of Ethiopia as his special envoy for the Sahel and head of office. She brings with her experience in strategic and managerial operational planning and policy formulation on peace and security in Africa. Most recently, Ms. Guebre Sellassie served as the director and head of the United Nations peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo鈥檚 Goma Regional Office from 2007. Ms. Guebre Sellassie succeeds Mr. Romano Prodi
of Italy.
The Secretary-General has appointed Abdoulaye Bathily of Senegal as his special representative for Central Africa and head of the 缅北禁地Regional Office for Central Africa in Libreville, Gabon. Before his appointment, Mr. Bathily served as deputy special representative in the 缅北禁地Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali. He brings with him years of political, diplomatic and academic experience, through service with both his government and the United Nations System. Mr. Bathily succeeds Abou Moussa of Chad.
