Tell us about yourself and the work you do

My name is Obedience Agu, and my company's name is SirObedd Studios, a subsidiary of Kamui View Ltd. I am 32 years old. As a photographer and drone operator, I have witnessed firsthand the transformative power of technology in Africa's creative industry.ÌýI have been involved in photography for about 14 years.Ìý

My professional journey began in 2009 when I managed my brother's photography studio as a floor manager. This experience sparked my passion for photography, and I soon took over as photographer and studio manager.Ìý

As a university student in Lagos, I continued photography on the side until graduation in 2019. My interest in drones started in 2019, fascinated by high-elevated angles and perspectives. I studied drones through online resources and was gifted a small drone in 2020, which I used to hone my skills.

How have digital advances in Africa impacted your work?

The digital revolution has been a game-changer for my work. With the popularity of social media and other online platforms, I can now showcase my work to a global audience. The increased accessibility of technology has also enabled me to experiment with new techniques and tools, such as drone technology, to push the boundaries of storytelling in Africa.

What sparked your passion for aerial photography and videography?

My passion for drone photography and videography was sparked by the unique perspective it offers. Seeing everyday locations and subjects from above gives them a new meaning and context. This fresh perspective has allowed me to tell stories in a way that resonates with audiences across Africa and beyond.

Drone technology has enabled me to capture stunning aerial views, revealing the beauty of Africa from a fresh angle. I enjoy the marvel on people's faces when they see familiar places from a new perspective.

How do you stay inspired and keep your creative edge?

I stay inspired by telling stories around me, showcasing the beauty and diversity of Africa. Travelling and exploring new places also sparks my creativity. The digital revolution has made it easier to access global trends and inspiration, which helps me stay ahead in the industry.

Can you tell us about some of your key achievements?

One memorable photograph was when I captured the Obudu Cattle Resort in Calabar, Cross River, Nigeria. It was a scenic wonder.Ìý

I am proud of providing drone services for real estate and other companies and helping them increase visibility and sales.Ìý

What are the main challenges you've faced in your career, and how did you overcome them?

First is a lack of information and education on safe drone usage. We have overcome this by educating security operatives and showcasing our work.Ìý

Are there any new technologies or techniques you are exploring, and how do you see your work evolving in the next few years?

We are currently exploring FPV [First Person View) technology for a more immersive experience and AI-powered content creation tools. In the next few years, I see our work evolving to incorporate more innovative technologies, such as augmented reality and 3D modelling.Ìý

We will continue to push the boundaries of storytelling in Africa, experimenting with new techniques and tools to stay ahead in the industry. The digital revolution has opened up endless possibilities, and we are excited to explore them.
