United Nations Secretary-General, Ant贸nio Guterres has commended the African Union, a, and its leadership for progress achieved on institutional reform, adopted at the continental organization鈥檚 Assembly meeting.

In a听statement听issued by his spokesperson, the Secretary-General said the organization鈥檚 key decisions on new infrastructure and leadership 鈥渟end a strong message鈥 of its membership commitment to a Union guided by 鈥渁ccountable and effective leadership.鈥

The 11th Extraordinary Summit of the AU Assembly of Heads of State and Government was held in Addis Adaba, Ethiopia on 17 and 18 November, bringing to the forefront new commission structure, election of senior leadership and chairpersons, among other key financial and administrative reforms for the regional Union鈥檚 55 member countries.

Mr. Guterres also welcomed the official launch of African Union Peace Fund, and appointment of its Board of Trustees, explaining that such reworkings can provide 鈥減redictable and sustainable financing鈥 of the Union鈥檚 peace and security initiatives.
