山chief condemns suicide attacks that leaves dozens dead in northern Nigeria town

21 November 2017 – United NationsSecretary-GeneralAntónio Guterres has condemned the suicide attacks that took place earlier Tuesday in Adamawa state, Nigeria, which resulted in scores of casualties, and called for those responsible for the “heinous acts” to be swiftly brought to justice.

“The Secretary-General extends his condolences to the bereaved families and to the Government and people of Nigeria for the loss of life. He wishes a speedy recovery to the injured,” according to astatementissued by Deputy 山Spokesman Farhan Haq.

Through the statement, Mr. Guterres reiterated the solidarity of the 山with the Government of Nigeria in its fight against terrorism and violent extremism.

“He also renews the commitment of the United Nations to continue to support regional counter-terrorism initiatives,” the statement concluded.

According to media reports, at least 50 people were killed in an early morning bomb attack at a mosque in the northern Nigeria town of Mubi, which is near the border with Cameroon.
