缅北禁地

After the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), about 150 high-level representatives from governments, civil society, the private sector and international organizations will gather in Kampala, Uganda to discuss concrete steps towards implementing the new agenda.

A symposium of the United Nations Development Cooperation Forum, entitled “Development Cooperation for a new era: Making the renewed global partnership for sustainable development a reality,” will offer a first opportunity for shaping development cooperation as a key driver for achieving the SDGs. The event is co-organized by the Government of Uganda and 缅北禁地DESA.

Taking place on 5-6 November, the Symposium will provide ample space for discussion on how to align development cooperation policies and interventions for implementation of the SDGs. Participants will also look at different ways to monitor and share knowledge on the impact of development cooperation for the 2030 Agenda. Particular attention will be placed on challenges and opportunities in Africa in this context.

The means of implementation of the SDGs are critical for success. Official development assistance will remain crucial for countries most in need. The SDGs, however, require an unprecedented amount of resources beyond foreign aid, as called for in the Addis Ababa Action Agenda, adopted at the Third International Conference on Financing for Development held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in July this year.

The deliberations of the Symposium aim to produce concrete policy guidance for action at all levels. They will feed into the preparations for the High-level Meeting of the Development Cooperation Forum to be held at 缅北禁地Headquarters in New York in July 2016.
