Action guide

Peace and global goals are never far from our daily life. Everyone can take action to participate in the International Day of Peace (21 September) and contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Actions for peace

Here are some activities you can consider and help raise awareness about peace and global goals.

 

Gather friends, family, and community members for a peaceful walk/run, promoting peace and raising awareness about the SDGs. Participants can wear t-shirts displaying messages for this year’s theme: Actions for Peace: Our Ambition for the #Global Goals.

Collaborate with local artists and community members to paint a mural depicting peace and the SDGs in a public space.

Organize a film screening event with friends showcasing movies or documentaries that highlight the importance of peace and sustainable development.

Arrange an interfaith gathering where people from different religious backgrounds can engage in meaningful conversations about peace, tolerance, and the SDGs.

Organize gathering where people from different generations can come together and discuss the importance of peace and the UN's global goals. Encourage sharing of perspectives and experiences to foster mutual understanding.

Encourage students to share music they believe promotes peace and unity with your class.

Organize a poetry slam event where participants can perform original poems centered around peace and the UN's global goals. Encourage creativity and emotional expression to inspire positive change.

Choose a community garden where people can come together on the International Day of Peace to foster a sense of unity, sustainability, and promoting peaceful coexistence.

Utilize social media platforms to share educational content, inspiring quotes, and infographics about peace and the International Day of Peace and the Global Goals.

Organize a letter-writing workshop where participants can write messages of peace and send them to relevant recipients.

Conduct yoga or meditation sessions in public spaces, promoting inner peace, mindfulness, and the connection between personal well-being, global harmony and peace.

Organize community clean-up activities to promote environmental sustainability, emphasizing the role of a clean and healthy environment in maintaining peace and achieving the SDGs.

Initiate collaborative art projects where people can contribute their creative skills to create a piece of artwork that symbolizes peace and represents the SDGs.

Encourage people to perform random acts of kindness throughout the day. Share stories and inspire others to create a ripple effect of positivity, emphasizing how these actions contribute to the UN's global goals.

Start a book club centered around peace literature and literature related to the UN's global goals. Foster discussions and create a space for shared learning and understanding.

Connect individuals with local and international organizations that work towards peace and the UN's global goals. Encourage them to offer their time and skills to support these initiatives.

Launch a photography contest where participants can submit images that depict peace, unity, and the UN's global goals. Showcase the winning entries in a local exhibition or through social media.

Organize an art exhibition in your school or community featuring artworks or photos of significant artworks that symbolizes peace and addresses the global goals of the UN.

Plan a day of sports activities that promote unity,inclusivity and peace. Include games like three-legged races, wheelbarrow races, or blindfolded relays, where participants must work together and rely on each other’s support to succeed.

Organize sports activities that promote inclusion and break down barriers, such as wheelchair basketball, blindfolded football, or mixed-ability relay races. Emphasize the importance of equality and the UN’s global goals related to social inclusion and peace.
