H.E. Mrs. Adaljiza Magno
Statement Summary
ADALJ?ZA ALBERTINA XAVIER REIS MAGNO, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Timor-Leste, said that her country is a proud example of what the United Nations can achieve when it combines a common sense of purpose and action to ensure the fundamental right of peoples to self-determination. Reaffirming Timor-Leste’s commitment to multilateralism and the Charter, she said that the United Nations needs to be reformed to best respond to today’s challenges. That includes reforming the Security Council to more fairly reflect the changes that have taken place since the Organization’s founding. She went on to stress the need to build upon past gains and agreements, including the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement on climate change, while also tackling the COVID-19 pandemic.
