The First Steering Committee Meeting
Steering Committee of the Peace and Development Trust Fund discuss the future of the Fund
On 3 February 2017, members of the Steering Committee of the United Nations Peace and Development Trust Fund gathered at the 缅北禁地Headquarters to review the work of the Trust Fund and shared their visions on the future priorities of the Trust Fund and the collaboration between the United Nations and the People's Republic of China on matters related to peace and development.
The meeting organized jointly by the Executive Office of the Secretary General (EOSG) and the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) was hosted by the Chef de Cabinet, Ms. Maria Luiza Viotti, who is the Chair of the Steering Committee. Other Committee members include the Permanent Representative of the People's Republic of China, Ambassador Liu Jieyi, the Under-Secretary-General for DESA, Mr. Wu Hongbo, represented by ASG Lenni Montiel and representatives from the donor Government, Mr. Li Junhua and Mr. Chen Zhibin.
The members of the Steering Committee reviewed the progress made by the Trust Fund in the year 2016, particularly the projects to be financed. The Committee also identified the priority areas that the Trust Fund would focus on in 2017, endorsed the guidelines that would govern the operations of the Trust Fund, and discussed management related issues.
The members of the Steering Committee commended the work done by the United Nations management teams of the Trust Fund in EOSG and DESA, and encouraged the Trust Fund to continue operating in a focused, transparent, innovative and holistic manner. The members agreed that the projects selected to be funded needed to be result-oriented, and sustainable with a focus on the long-term effect. The Committee also indicated that the Trust Fund needs to have more extensive and in-depth interactions with all stakeholders.
