International Day of Forests 2016
The theme of the 2016 International Day of Forests was 鈥渇orests and water鈥�. To mark the Day, a joint celebration of the International Day of Forests and World Water Day was held on Monday, 21 March 2016 in the Economic and Social Council Chamber, UNHQ, New York. The event entitled 鈥淔orests and Water | Sustain Life and Livelihoods鈥� highlighted the interconnections between forests and water, and their contributions to implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The event was organised by the UNFF Secretariat and UN-Water, in collaboration with the Government of Sweden.
Global celebration
Every year, the Forum secretariat holds special events to celebrate the International Day of Forests at United Nations Headquarters in New York which attract participation from representatives of Member States, regional organizations, members of the Collaborative Partnership on Forests and non-governmental organizations. The special events are also webcast live by and tweeted live.
