COP29 side event | Advancing a just transition and securing new opportunities for LDCs (ODI)

21 November 2024. "This session seeks to highlight some practical entry points within the global green transition to assist in more of a green ease than a squeeze: securing new market opportunities for the LDCs. It aims to cover the following non-exhaustive thematic areas:

– Technology transfer
– Carbon pricing, including taxation
– Sustainability standards
– Environmentally friendly goods and services
– Connecting stakeholders with new sources of investment and finance

A neglected energy transition - phasing out the use of charcoal and firewood for cooking, Advanced Electric Cooking Solutions in LDCs (UNIDO, REEI, CDOP29 side-event)

16 November 2024. "Under the auspices of UNIDO and the REEEI initiative, we invite you to a dialogue focusing on a just transition to electric cooking in Least Developed Countries (LDCs). This discussion will shed light on the pressing health, environmental, and social challenges posed by traditional biomass cooking methods and the significant benefits of adopting electric cooking solutions. We will highlight successful case studies, address barriers to adoption, and showcase innovative strategies that ensure gender equity and empower women.

Work of the LEG in providing technical guidance and support for the formulation and implementation of NAPs - Constituted Body event (COP29)

11 November 2024."The LEG will present the updated NAP technical guidelines. It will also launch the NAP progress report for 2024, which provides the most up-to-date information on where developing countries are on their NAPs and presents emerging best practices as well as outstanding obstacles and challenges. Countries will be invited to share their experiences on formulating and implementing their NAPs.
