COP29 side event | Advancing a just transition and securing new opportunities for LDCs (ODI)

21 November 2024. "This session seeks to highlight some practical entry points within the global green transition to assist in more of a green ease than a squeeze: securing new market opportunities for the LDCs. It aims to cover the following non-exhaustive thematic areas:

– Technology transfer
– Carbon pricing, including taxation
– Sustainability standards
– Environmentally friendly goods and services
– Connecting stakeholders with new sources of investment and finance

Event held during the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) by EIF and ODI, hosted at the Trade House (International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the International Trade Centre (ITC), the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), and the World Trade Organization (WTO) Secretariat).

Aligning climate and trade policy for LDCs and graduates

Graduation from “Less Developed Country” status marks huge economic and social progress, but risks can arise after the loss of international support measures. To deliver the SDGs and halve greenhouse gas emissions, climate and trade policy need to align in a way that works for the poorest.

The LDC Group and the Alliance of Small Island States formed an influential and ambitious bloc in the 缅北禁地climate negotiations. However, LDC trade and climate policy communities need to engage in a structured way to support transitional measures.

OHRLLS, OECD Development Centre and the Foundation for Studies and Research on International Development (FERDI) held a virtual event on 21 and 23 October 2020 “The Road to the 5th?缅北禁地Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5): Recovery from COVID-19 - Tackling vulnerabilities and leveraging scarce resources” on 21 and 23 October 2020. Interpretation in English and French will be provided.
