CTED and Naif Arab University for Security Sciences (NAUSS) hold a high-level seminar on cross-regional trends on the nexus between organized crime and terrorism
On 5 and 6 December 2022, the United Nations Security Council Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED), acting in collaboration with its Global Research Network (GRN) partner Naif Arab University for Security Sciences (NAUSS), will hold a high-level seminar on “Cross-Regional Trends on the Nexus between Organized Crime and Terrorism”. The seminar will include the participation of experts from CTED, GRN and United Nations agencies and international organizations and senior practitioners of Member States.
The event initiative is an effort from NAUSS to implement one of the recommendations of the twenty-fourth conference of the counter terrorism experts of the League of Arab States. The aim of the seminar will be to facilitate discussion of the latest developments and trends in this area, and to understand the different approaches and aspects of the global and regional responses to the nexus of terrorism and transitional organized crime, their legal frameworks, the various types of linkages between them, and to visit the regional differences with regard to their interactions.
The Security Council has demonstrated a growing interest in the nexus between terrorism and organized crime as a threat to international peace and security. Over recent years, the Council’s focus has evolved from the financial and strategic relationship between terrorism and organized crime to include the tactical and operational intersections between them.
The high-level seminar will take place at United Nations Headquarters on Monday, 5 December and Tuesday, 6 December 2022 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST in Conference Room 2.
