New framework for enhanced cooperation between RATS SCO and 缅北禁地CTED

On 25 March 2019, United Nations Assistant Secretary-General and Executive Director of the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) Michèle Coninsx, and the Director of the Executive Committee of the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (RATS SCO) Jamakhon Ghiyosov, signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at enhancing the strategic framework of cooperation between the two entities.

The agreement provides, in particular, for enhanced information exchange on counter-terrorism and builds upon the framework of cooperation established between CTED and RATS SCO through an exchange of letters in 2012-2013.

ASG Coninsx and Director Ghiyosov also discussed the ongoing cooperation in the region, including in the context of RATS SCO participation in the Counter-Terrorism Committee’s assessment visits to countries in Central Asia and supporting their counter-terrorism capacities, including those related to border security.

The signing ceremony took place on the margins of the 2019 OSCE-Wide Counter-Terrorism Conference held in Bratislava, Slovakia.
