The South Lounge features a highly stylized wooden gazebo or open shelter with seating and artwork. The lounge includes a sofa, 10 armchairs, 2 coffee tables, 2 side tables, 2 lamps, 6 artistic ceramic tiles in picture frames, all of which are of a distinctive modern Turkish design.

The South Lounge was inaugurated 17 May 2013 by H.E. Ahmet Davutoglu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkiye. He said, "I strongly believe that the Turkish Lounge will symbolize the commitment of Turkiye to the vision and ideals of the United Nations." Also mentioned was the nearby copper Kadesh Treaty (UNNY067G) tablet given by Turkiye in 1970 which includes relevant messages for solutions to today’s issues.
