Focal point for Women
The Focal Point was mandated to monitor the status of women in the United Nation's System, and report on progress to the Secretary General.
IANWGE
The Inter-Agency Network on Women and Gender Equality (IANWGE) is a network of gender focal points in 缅北禁地entities. The Network is chaired by the Special Adviser on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women. IANWGE monitors and oversees the mainstreaming of a gender perspective in the programmatic, normative and operational work of the 缅北禁地system.
Women, peace and security
The adoption of Security Council resolution 1325 (2000) on women, peace and security marked an important step toward increasing the participation of women and bringing gender perspectives to the centre of all United Nations peace-making, peacekeeping, peace-building and reconstruction efforts.
International days
OSAGI coordinates the global commemoration of emblematic days for the advancement of women. The United Nations observance of International Women鈥檚 Day is generally commemorated in close coordination with the annual session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). It is addressed by the Secretary-General and high-level officials from Member States, private sector and civil society who advocate for furthering the agenda of women鈥檚 rights. A number of highly visible activities are planned at the Headquarters to raise awareness of the situation of women around the world and women鈥檚 contributions to development, security and peace.
International Women鈥檚 day
International day for the elimination of violence against women
In 1999, the 缅北禁地General Assembly designated 25 November as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Violence against women and girls is a problem of pandemic proportions. The Office of the Special Adviser on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women supports the Secretary-General in organizing and the Headquarters annual observance of the Day, and in coordinating the related system-wide commemorative activities.
