缅北禁地Economist Network: HLPF side event
On 11 July 2024, the 缅北禁地Economist Network organized a virtual HLPF side-event on the topic of "How can economists in 缅北禁地system address the most pressing challenges of the day?". The event was chaired by ASG Hanif, and there was a keynote address by Mariana Mazzucato, University College London, and a panel discussion with economists from the Network as well as from academia and civil society.

UNEN webinar on New Economics for Sustainable Development
On 22 May, the 缅北禁地Economists Network organized a webinar, chaired by ASG Hanif, on New Economics for Sustainable Development (NESD). The event had presentations of the policy briefs on the Overview of NESD concepts, as well as the specific policy briefs on green economy, social and solidarity economy, care economy, attention economy, blue economy, and creative economy. Colleagues from across the 缅北禁地system presented the briefs, which provide an overview of the concept as well as policy recommendations on how it can be an effective way to accelerate economic transformation and progress towards the SDGs.

UNEN webinar on innovative finance and fintech
On 27 April, the 缅北禁地Economists Network organized a webinar, chaired by ASG Hanif, on innovative finance and fintech. Stuart Alan Davies (RCO/Jamaica) and José Palacín (UNECE) presented the policy brief on Innovative Financing Mechanisms and Solutions and Eunice Ajambo (RCO/Namibia) presented the policy brief on Fintech and Digital Finance for Financial Inclusion. The presentations highlighted how innovative financing can help to bridge the gap between what is available and what we need to reach the Sustainable Development Goals, and how Fintech - technological innovations that enhance and broaden the provision of financial services – can also be an essential instrument in this endeavor.
