缅北禁地Global Sports Programme: E-Learning Course on the Prevention of Violent Extremism through Sport
To commemorate the for the Prevention of Violent Extremism as and when Conducive to Terrorism, the Global Sports Programme will host an online expert discussion, on 14 February 2024, to share good practices and expertise on the use of sport as an innovative tool for PVE. The event will be an opportunity to launch the Programme’s e-learning course on the “Prevention of Violent Extremism through Sport”.
The e-learning course embodies an innovative tool to provide digital technical assistance for policymakers, practitioners, local authorities, international and regional organizations, the private sector, sports federations and associations, athletes, youth leaders, academic researchers, and civil society to support efforts for effective integration of sport into strategies and National Action Plans to foster resiliency to violent extremism.
The e-course includes seven modules, each taking approximately 45-minutes to complete, and will be available on UNOCT’s Connect & Learn platform.

About the UNOCT
The 缅北禁地Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT)-led Global Programme on the Security of Major Sporting Events, and Promotion of Sport and Its Values as a Tool to Prevent Violent Extremism (Global Sports Programme) was launched in 2020 to:
- assist Member States in protecting vulnerable targets in the context of major sporting events,
- leverage the power of sports and its values to strengthen social cohesion and build resilience to violent extremism.
The Eighth Review of the 缅北禁地Global Counter Terrorism Strategy encourages “Member States to strengthen efforts to improve the security and protection of particularly vulnerable targets, including […] sport events”. It further acknowledges sports for preventing youth participation in acts of terrorism and violent extremism.
