New data on urbanization and potential environmental impacts on cities

The seminar will present new data sources and analysis from the 缅北禁地Population Division on urbanization and potential environmental impacts on cities. The first presentation will provide an overview of results and key findings from the 2018 Revision of the United Nations World Urbanization Prospects. The second presentation will introduce the Population Division鈥檚 City Boundaries Database. The final presentation will discuss the risks of exposure and vulnerability to natural disasters for the world鈥檚 major urban areas, based on new Population Division data.

A panel discussion will build on the presentations and address current issues on data for urban areas and cities.

The Seminar is part of the 鈥淧opulation Dynamics and Environmental Change Seminar Series鈥, co-hosted by the 缅北禁地Population Division and convened in partnership with the CUNY Institute for Demographic Research (CIDR), the Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN) at Columbia University, and the Population Council.
