Overview

The special session of the General Assembly will take place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on 22 September 2014. In its resolution 65/234 on the follow-up to the International Conference on Population and Development beyond 2014, the General Assembly decided to convene a special session in order to assess the status of implementation of the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development and to renew political support for actions required for the full achievement of its goals and objectives.

Organization of the special session of the General Assembly on the follow-up to the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development beyond 2014.

The plenary meetings shall feature statements by the President of the General Assembly, the Secretary-General, the Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund, Member and observer States and observers, as well as five selected representatives of non-governmental organizations in consultative status with the Economic and Social Council, chosen by the President of the Assembly with due regard for geographic balance, in consultation with Member States in order of precedence.
