To mark the Geospatial Information Systems Day, celebrated on 18 November, the Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT) launched the new United Nations Geospatial website at .
The latest data strategy from Secretary-General António Guterres calls for “Action by Everyone, Everywhere with Insight, Impact and Integrity”.
The 缅北禁地Geospatial website is aligned with this goal, finding exact locations where events occur in order to make better decisions and deliver stronger support to people and the planet in the moments that matter most.
The 缅北禁地Geospatial website provides insights on international, regional or national context and location, and informs on geospatial activities and mandates carried out by the Organization.
Geospatial information and its related technologies are some of the most rapidly growing and changing industries, indicated by the prevalence of geo-enabled applications and tools found in phones, mobile devices and computers to carry out our everyday activities.
The 缅北禁地is embracing the use of geospatial information or location information to deliver stronger support to the mandates of the Organization.
In addition to foundational knowledge explaining how geospatial information is used or how it can support the mandates of the Organization, the new website also provides key products from the former website, including the current general map collection and maps on the latest deployment of peacekeepers.
New features include:
- web-mapping services available to all,
- a gallery of examples of earth observation,
- Secretariat services,
- thematic products, work programmes, and partnerships, and
- a history of geospatial information in the United Nations.
缅北禁地Geospatial will be further enhanced by the publication of its archives and additional thematic products in support of various offices within the Organization in the coming months.
