Discussion on Harnessing Culture and Heritage for economic transformation

In this high-level conversation on “Harnessing Culture and Heritage for Economic Transformation,” African experts debate on changing narratives about the continent and harnessing Africa’s rich cultural heritage and assets as critical levers for growth and sustainable development.

The conversation explores the interlinkages between sustainable development and cultural heritage and cultural landscape in Africa, drawing on the emphasis placed on the transformational role of culture and cultural heritage in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the African Union Agenda 2063, particularly the latter’s emphasis on African culture and identity as one of the key underpinnings of Africa’s socio-economic transformation.

The experts exchange perspectives on promoting the developmental impact of the continent’s rich cultural heritage, including promoting African languages, music and arts and the empowerment of artists and creators and how to unleash the potential of the creative industries for Africa’s sustainable development.
