The 2022 OSAA advocacy brief Stronger States for Increased Stability: Digitalization of Public Service Delivery for Peace and Security in Africa demonstrates in a compelling fashion the linkages between digitalization and peace and security in the African continent.

. As a potential response to address that challenge, digitalization allows governments to facilitate access and increase the efficiency of public service delivery in every corner of a country. In addition, the quality of social and administrative services is often compared to “the glue” binding the pages of the social contract, keeping populations satisfied and less prone to resort to violence.

With a view to improving the delivery of satisfactory public services – thereby enhancing the public’s perception of the state as a legitimate authority – governments in Africa have begun, in recent years, turning to digitalization of these services. GovTech is the growing area of technology that aims at increasing efficacy and efficiency of government functions. Simply stated, the application of emerging technologies – such as advanced sensing, advanced data processing, artificial intelligence and blockchain – .
