Conversation with African youths on “Harnessing Culture and Heritage for economic transformation”
The cultural and creative industries rake in billions of dollars annually and employ the majority of young people globally. The question is how can African youth benefit from this successful industry within their context? In this conversation, young Africans talk about “Harnessing culture and heritage for economic transformation.” Drawing from their diverse backgrounds and experiences, the panelists share ideas on how young Africans can harness their potential, creativity and culture for the continent’s economic transformation. They also make concrete proposals for policy makers to create a conducive environment for young people to tap into the cultural and creative industries so the continent can reap benefits from this demographic dividend.

Sudanese-American slam poet and former refugee Emi Mahmoud was appointed a Goodwill Ambassador for UNHCR, the 缅北禁地Refugee Agency in June 2018. Emi has represented UNHCR at high profile global events, ranging from the World Economic Forum at Davos to The Youth Strategy 2030 launch at the 缅北禁地General Assembly. She has given powerhouse performances of her poetry on stages across the world, from Google Zeitgeist to the Sziget music festival in Hungary.
